    About HFLA Cleveland

The Hebrew Free Loan Association of Cleveland was founded in 1904 with $400 donated by Charles Ettinger, Morris Black, and their friends to help European refugees settle and begin productive lives in this country. It was the concept of the founders that the monies be repaid and available for others to use in their time of need. This concept guides HFLA’s actions today. The association has increased it’s lending capital through the years from individual gifts, bequests, endowments, foundation grants, memorials and honorariums. Our modest operating expenses are covered by dues and contributions.
